Useful info
We remind you that on this excursion we will find ourselves in a protected park, so it is necessary to respect those few civil rules to keep intact the fragile balance of this place. It is also forbidden to remove flowers and step on them with the passage of some cycle or motorcycle.
In addition to risking very high fines, a magical place is ruined, where nature shows itself with all its beauty to past, present and future generations.
One of the most iconic walks in all of Liguria is the one that from Casa del Romano quickly arrives at the meadows of the Cavalla, gentle grassy slopes on which thousands of wild daffodils sprout during the month of May. In this article, we propose a more demanding but satisfying variant, starting from the small village of Fontanarossa, located in the upper Trebbia valley, on the northern side of Monte della Cavalla.
According to a legend, the small town, which permanently hosts about twenty souls, is the birthplace of Susanna, the mother of Christopher Columbus.
After a coffee in the characteristic bar of the village where gather wild boar hunters, mushroom hunters and chestnut gatherers, we took the small road that climbs sharply to the left (signposted with a yellow line).
Beyond the last houses, the road becomes a cart track, enters a beautiful beech forest and arrives at a small clearing with an equipped area. Continuing on, the mule track goes up diagonally across the ridge of the mountain and comes out right in the meadows of the Cavalla (turn left), where we stopped to admire the flowering of wild daffodils.
From a distance the meadows are as if they were dotted with white, white that closely takes the form of majestic daffodils facing the sun, caressed by a light breeze coming from the Ligurian sea. If you arrive early, you will find very few people, and the quiet peaceful atmosphere will give you unique moments.
Do not forget to take some photos of the asphodels, another very present flower in this area.
After this photo stop, we continued on the ridge that reaches Casa del Romano, in an idyllic path that gave us splendid views of the Trebbia valley and the small rural village of Fascia, while the cowbells of the herds could be heard from afar ruminating on the grass. fresh of the highest quality.
Later, from Casa del Romano we reached the astronomical observatory of the Antola park, where other daffodils were waiting for us, and we continued the trek to the Capanne di Carrega pass, a place where we stopped with an incomparable view over the whole val Trebbia, surrounded by yellow flowers and bottondoro.
The return was the backward journey of the outward journey, with a hint of satisfaction for having chosen to make this excursion in the early morning: in the afternoon the hundreds of visitors were disappointed by the arrival of clouds that covered the sun and the meadows flowery.
Man forewarned ...
