It can be said that the wild crocus heralds the arrival of spring.
It usually peeps out among the last snow and fills the meadows with its lilac color, creating scenes that deserve to be contemplated.
It is possible to find a beautiful flowering if you choose to spend the day walking in Tiglieto, perhaps to visit the historic Badia, the jewel of the entire surrounding area.
The historic building, founded in 1120, was the first to host a Cistercian community outside of French territory. The founders chose one of the alluvial plains of the Orba, and thanks to agricultural work they effectively contributed to the economic development of the entire territory.
The meadows that nowadays surround the entire plain around the Badia were all cultivated and worked in such a way as to allow rainwater to flow away, and the woods were used as a reserve of wood; at the edges of the latter, grazing land was created.
The abbey played a role of primary importance for the entire territory for a few centuries, after which a slow but inexorable period of decline began.
With the latest restorations, an attempt was made to remedy the post-war interventions, trying to restore the building's original seventeenth-century appearance.
In the Badia park there is an area equipped with tables and benches, and all around there is a network of paths on which you can take pleasant walks and imagine the life once led by the monks who lived in the area.
The circular tour of the Badia di Tiglieto, lasting about 2 hours with almost no difference in altitude, can be done throughout the year (avoiding periods of flood of the river following rain).
