At the foot of the mountains

At the foot of the mountains

The Turin metropolitan area contains some of the most beautiful and evocative valleys of the entire Alpine chain, places that inspired the founding members of the CAI, the Italian mountaineering movement par excellence.

The Alps on the border with France are rich in history, because the passes allow you to easily go to France.

The mule tracks connected these remote areas, sometimes guarded by forts or military buildings that were used to control the territory during the Kingdom of Italy.

The continuous exchanges between populations have contributed to the development of the villages in the area, where skiing and hiking are now practiced, and where it is possible to taste local products.

In the northernmost part we find the Canavese which, crossed by the Orco torrent, delimits the southern border of the Gran Paradiso national park, home of the ibex and the marmot, the first officially protected Italian area.

These are just some of the elements that characterize the Turin area, a land at the foot of the mountains, which we will talk about in this section.
