OUR TRIP TO UZBEKISTAN

Our Trip to Uzbekistan

With this series of articles we want to offer you our itinerary in Uzbekistan, which resembles a journey back in time. To make this trip we relied on an Uzbek agency with a local Italian-speaking guide.

The agency's package was built entirely tailor-made for a couple of travellers.

We started with Tashkent, a city with millennia of history but almost completely rebuilt after the serious earthquake of 1966.

We then moved to Karakalpakstan, where we crossed the area of what was once called "the Aral Sea", and visited the city of Nukus, where the "Louvre of the desert" is located.

From Nukus we retraced the Silk Road, stopping in the ancient regions of the kingdoms of Khiva and Bukhara, bordering the red sand desert of Kyzylkum.

Finally we moved to Samarkand, the ancient capital of the vast empire of the strategist and leader Amir Timur, known throughout Europe by the name of Tamerlane.
