Mount Antola is one of those mountains dear to the Genoese people, full of memories and affections of a past time.
It is a very popular mountain throughout the year, and there are many paths to reach its grassy summit. Perhaps the most panoramic of all is the one that starts from Incisa pass, which is located almost at the end of the road that goes from Crocefieschi to Pareto, one of the many small farming villages that are part of the Antola nature park.
In these places it is easy to imagine the hard life that the farmers once lived to survive and get by, in a grim existence marked by the changing of the seasons. Even today, with a few more comforts, someone resists clinging to their land, while most of the descendants of those who fled to seek their fortune usually spend part of the summer in what have become second homes, far from the chaotic Genoa.
These places offer magnificent views, where the silent beauty created by nature is celebrated every season.
It is easy to realize the above as soon as you park at the Incisa pass, where we left the car in an open space.
We then embarked on the path that, making its way through meadows used for grazing, allows you to travel along the Antola ridge, always maintaining a high altitude, without having to face continuous ups and downs.
The path is very panoramic, always well marked and recognizable, and gives the possibility to reach the peaks of mount Buio (1402 m) and mount Riondo; walking along it in the first ten days of May has given us some blooms of splendid wild daffodils that sprouted solitary in the meadows, and of gentians warmed by the sun on the top of mount Buio.
Descending from Monte Buio, the path joins the one that climbs up from the small town of Tonno and continues entering the woods before reaching the summit of Monte Antola (1597 m) with a view of the Brugneto lake and in the distance of the Ligurian Sea.
At the top, hundreds of bees and colorful butterflies leapt from flower to flower, and the sight of the bright green woods gave us back a sense of peace and wonder that is difficult to describe, absolutely to be experienced in person.
The return path is the same as that of the outward journey, but we also recommend a trip to the new Antola refuge, which is located a few minutes downhill from the summit, after the junction that leads back to the ridge of Mount Antola.
